News > Covid-19 update regarding carrying a coffin and taking cords (24th June 2021)

The First Minister has announced that from 1st July regulations will change in order to allow members from more than one household to carry a coffin indoors and outdoors at a funeral service and to take a cord at the graveside.

We are delighted that for the first time since March 2019 this important ritual, and last earthly thing which people can do for a person who has died, can once again be possible.

Ultimately the decison regarding this does rest with the venue or local authority who have control over the place where the funeral is being held. We can however confirm that we have spoken with Falkirk Council who have told us that they will once again allow people to carry a coffin into the Crematorium building and that people will be able to take a cord when an interment is taking place.
